1. Our Playroom cookies

A cookie is a small text file that we send to your smartphone, tablet or computer when you are using this website. Cookies help us to make the site work as expected and provide us with information about our users.

We like our own cookies best, and we are placing & accesing the following cookies when using our website:

Functional cookies: these cookies are placed by our web & game developers, because they want to make sure that our website is working as expected. We need these cookies so you can login, request a new password, remember your accounts on this device, and so on.

For the tech-savvies: our functional cookie is called PHPSESSID)

Analytics cookies: website analytics are essential for improving our website, but your privacy is key.

That’s why we are running Matomo Analytics (https://matomo.org/), a great open-source tool respecting your data and fully GDPR compliant on our own webserver. That’s one of our computers connected to the internet.

We keep track of anonymized data about the surfing behavior: number of visits, pageviews, returning visits, visit duration, internet browser, device type, website goals and actions (play a game, start a Playroom battle, …). We are using IP addresses to determine city & country, but not the exact location.

When you set your web browser to "I do not want to be tracked" (DoNotTrack is enabled) then we will not track your visits.

For Matomo Analytics to work, we are placing … Analytics cookies. (For the tech-savvies: our analytics cookie names start with _pk_)

Marketing cookies: we are using Mautic (https://www.mautic.org/), an open-source marketing tool for sending marketing related messages: emails, newsletter campaigns. We display at our own website promo popups, banners, forms, downloads and so on.

Mautic is also running on our own webserver as a self-hosted tool, and your data is only accesible to people working for Playroom by SmartGames.

For Mautic to work, we are placing … Marketing cookies. We only place marketing cookies for parents, teachers & gamer accounts. If a child is logged in to Playroom, we do not place a marketing cookie.

All these cookies are placed exclusively by us, and necessary for our website to work. The data these cookies generate is not shared or sold to external parties or companies. These cookies are not used for re-marketing messages on social media, YouTube or other external websites.

Sign in with Google cookie

If you sign in to Playroom via your Google account, Google is placing a cookie. This will change in Q1 2024, as Google will no longer place a cookie when using Sign In with Google.

(For the tech-savvies: the google cookie is called g_state)

2. Third-party cookies

Good news! At playroom.SmartGames.com we do not use thrid-party cookies like Facebook, Google Analytics, Google Ads, TikTok, Pinterest, X, Whatsapp, Snapchat, … Third-parties can not place their marketing related cookies and tracking pixels when you are using this website.

3. Your data

Personal data

When playing our games, you want to keep track of the games you have played, the number of stars or coins you have won, play at home, on the go or at school, …

For this to work you need to create an account to access & play our games.

You can choose to create a::

  • 1. Teacher account: allows you to create & manage children accounts, follow up game progress, buy a membership for you class
  • 2. Parent account: allows you to create & manage family member accounts, follow up game progress, buy a family membership
  • 3. Gamer account: allows you to follow up your own game progress, buy a single player membership

We ask for the following information from you:

  • Username
  • E-mail address
  • Password

We require your e-mail adress so you can recover your account in case you have forgotten your password, to send you invoices or send you Playroom updates via e-mail. You can always unsubscribe from these Playroom updates.

When creating children or family member accounts as a teacher or parent, we ask:

  • Username
  • Password

Passwords are stored securely and are encrypted, meaning in an unreadable format.

Firstname & lastname are optional.

When paying for your membership, we use the payment platform Mollie.com. You can find the privacy statement of Mollie at https://www.mollie.com/privacy

Except for Mollie we are not sharing your personal data with any other companies or third-parties.

Playroom data

When playing our games we keep track of the following:

  • Number of stars won
  • Number of coins won
  • Time used to solve a challenge
  • Number of moves used to solve a challenge
  • Number of undos to solve a challenge
  • Number of resets to solve a challenge

Nobody has access to this data, except your teacher, parent or people working on Playroom games, website, mobile apps and webserver.

2. Security

We protect your data as follows:

  • Your data is stored securely in a non-public database, and we make a backup every day
  • Our website & apps are secured by a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) certificate, meaning that the data you send to our server is sent in an unreadable format
  • Your data and personal information is never sold to third-parties
  • We are not using any third-party cookies & trackers
  • Player profiles are not public
  • You can delete your account at any time, we keep your data as long as required

2. Your rights

You have the right to see your data, and you can ask us to remove your data. To do so, send an email at privacy@smart.be.
